Each suite is given two laundry tags to have laundry processed during the week. In the event your family needs more than four loads, Red Horse Mountain Ranch does offer additional laundry tickets at 20 USD.

Weekly ranch schedules

The schedule also includes evening entertainment, meal times, and other happenings on the ranch. The schedule is located in the main lodge for all the guests to sign up for guided adventures whenever they would like. Since you'll be staying for the week, you'll have the opportunity to do everything on the ranch.

Parents or children (ages three to ten) can also sign themselves up for the kids' program activities during the week. A typical day at the ranch includes an early morning activity, morning horseback ride (or other activity), and an afternoon guided activity. You will be given lots of choices every day. Arrival check-ins are between 14:00 and 17:00 on Sundays. When you arrive, you'll be given a tour around the main lodge and settled into your suite. If you can, you may leave yourself some extra time too. There are hiking trails and other things to see on your way into the ranch.

Your first scheduled item on the ranch will not start until 17:00 so you can take your time and see some of the beauty that North Idaho has to offer. Cocktail hour will start at 17:00 and dinner will begin at 18:00. To find out more, you can stop by the Trading Post. The evening entertainment will begin at 19:30. Furthermore, all departures occur after breakfast on Saturday.

Horseback riding vacation

The horse is without a doubt front and center at Red Horse Mountain Ranch and horseback riding during your vacation is an everyday experience if you choose to do so. The riding program is designed to be an instructional, exhilarating, relaxing, and memorable experience for everyone. The ranch has approximately 100 horses on the ranch during the summer. Before you arrive, you will be scheduled with a horse and saddle for your entire stay based on the riding preferences you provide.

Each day on the ranch, riders will have at least two opportunities for western-style horseback riding which includes advanced riding, scenic rides, horseback lessons, all-day or lunch rides, kids horseback rides, and family rides. All guests will be asked to complete an orientation and walking ride during the first day of their vacation unless they are returning guests. This gives Red Horse Mountain Ranch's wranglers a chance to orient you to the barn and give you a chance to meet your horse and make any adjustments to your saddle and riding equipment for the rest of the week.

Your own horse for the week

Red Horse Mountain Ranch offers all types of horseback riding during your dude ranch vacation. All rides will leave the valley floor and climb to unique vistas, viewpoints, or peaks, except for the horseback rides with the younger children. Advanced and beginner horseback riding is available. Advanced riders must complete the advanced test, allowing Red Horse Mountain Ranch to see your ability to control the horse and to make sure you and your horse are a good match. Each guest, three years old and up, will be given a horse and a saddle for the entire time they are on the ranch.

Horseback riding policies

Horseback riding is only available to those riders under 240 pounds or athletically built. Horseback trail riding is available to age three and up, and kids ages three to six will be led depending on their ability. Each guest will need to fill out the activity information form when making their reservations. If you have any questions regarding the horseback riding policies, please send Red Horse Mountain Ranch an inquiry for more information.

Horse Safety Program by the Dude Ranchers' Association (DRA)

Red Horse Mountain Ranch has been a Horse Safety Program member since its beginning. The program is a reflection of a proactive approach by the Dude Ranchers’ Association to promote safe horse programs. The program provides an educational opportunity through two seminars. These seminars promote continual evaluation of safety procedures and skills. This program is a reflection of the member ranches and the responsibility to give guest riders enjoyable horseback riding vacations along with exercising the highest degree of care. Each certified ranch must be re-certified every three years. The owner, operator, or manager must attend both seminars to complete or update current certification. Be sure and look for the DRA Horse Safety Logo before you book your dude ranch vacation.

Kids' program

With Red Horse Mountain Ranch's famous kids' program, parents can choose to take on the adult adventures during their week and know their children will be well cared for and have their own adventures at a child's pace. You'll meet back at lunch and dinner and hear all of the exciting adventures they were able to accomplish with the seasoned crew of kids' adventure guides.

Zip lining, challenge course, .22 rifle plinking, pottery barn, horseback riding lessons, and kayaking are just some of the adventures the kids have full access to. Each week, there are usually between 10 and 15 kids through the summer, ranging between the ages of three and ten. There are usually five to seven-year-olds in the teen years.

Kids morning arena (for ages three to six)

Red Horse Mountain Ranch's goal is to make horseback riding something each child loves and remembers. Part of this is the opportunity to feel the exhilaration of changing gaits, controlling their horse, and having the chance to bond. During their week at the ranch, the little buckaroos (ages three to six) will have opportunities to learn more about their horse and step into the arena while being led by their wranglers. This will be an opportunity for the kids to take more control of their horse and possibly move into a faster gait. For kids over the age of six, there are family lessons scheduled through the week as well.

Family horseback lessons (for ages seven and up)

These lessons are the perfect place for the kids to learn more about horsemanship while spending some quality family time. Kids, accompanied by a parent or more family members, will have the opportunity to see, feel, and grow in their confidence and horsemanship skills. These horseback lessons are run by Red Horse Mountain Ranch's wranglers and often include a short trail ride to experience some of your new skills.

Horseback riding for young adults (ages 11 to 20)

All other opportunities on the ranch available to parents are also available for ages 11 years and older. This will include the scenic rides, family horseback lessons, horseback riding lessons, advanced riding, and lunch rides. For the advanced horseback riding, each rider must pass the advanced horseback riding check before they are able to participate on this ride. It is very typical on the ranch to have families arrive at the ranch and certain kids be older than the kids' program. If your children are six and 11, Red Horse Mountain Ranch highly recommends giving your younger child the chance to meet their horse, the staff, and other kids their own age on the first day.

However, you definitely know your kids better than Red Horse Mountain Ranch do so if you feel it necessary for their older sibling to join them, they will absolutely agree. Red Horse Mountain Ranch's goal is for them to feel comfortable from day one. The kids' horseback riding program is designed as an introduction to horses and trail riding. It happens occasionally that a child has a higher skill level than most. If they have been riding for a while, you'll understand that this would be a new horse, new terrain, and maybe a completely different experience.

Red Horse Mountain Ranch is just overly cautious when it comes to kids. Their suggestion is to be as thorough on their activity information sheet as you can. It happens occasionally that eight, nine, and ten-year-olds can be included in the some of the adult scenic rides depending on their skill levels and the terrain. Red Horse Mountain Ranch would like to meet the kids, see them ride, and let them get a feel for the ranch prior to giving you the expectation. If you have any questions, please send Red Horse Mountain Ranch an inquiry prior to making a reservation. Red Horse Mountain Ranch's goal is absolutely for every child to have a learning and growth experience while being on the ranch.

Bring the grandparents

Not only do Red Horse Mountain Ranch offers the grandparents an extra discount on your family ranch vacation, they will also have special considerations. The ranch is absolutely the perfect place. Grandparents will be on the ranch every week hanging out, riding horses, going down zip lines, and having a blast. Sometimes they'll join in on the kids' program or just head down to the barn to watch the kids ride off on their horse. There's plenty of space to relax. They'll enjoy the food and drink, the myriad of activities, the views, and everything in between. Even if you have a grandparent who needed to be given a shuttle around the ranch once in a while, the staffs will be happy to do it. The ranch will provide everything needed to make your grandparents feel comfortable.

Family evening entertainment

In the evenings, there will still plenty to do with evening entertainment like campfires, roasting marshmallows, special dinners for parents, kids' night out, and much more. Of course, there are also quiet places to rest from the day's adventures and hot tubs scattered around the ranch.

Other activities

You can enjoy the guided adventures for a full week at the ranch - it is the only way to get everything in. With a 50-foot climbing wall, zip lines, horseback riding, boat rides, bike tours, archery courses, sporting clays, and more, your family will no doubt be excited to wake up every day. There are also self guided activities on-site. Heated swimming pool, hot tubs, games, etc. If you're looking to just hang out and relax, the pool, hot tubs, and a healthy list of outdoor games are also available. Moreover, it is possible if you want to spend time with my kids but also a quality time with your spouse.

The ranch experience is designed specifically for this. The kids' program is designed to allow you to have your children taken care of completely during their day or you are more than welcome to join them. Red Horse Mountain Ranch even has specific time periods when you can do your adventures as your own family. During each week on the ranch, there will be one night set aside for parents to dine in a formal setting (with or without you needing to be formal) and the kids have their own evening planned. This will be a special time for the adults to celebrate the week with the adults and the kids to do the same.
