After countless trips through the mountains, they have become a second home. Each time you visit, you will be filled with wonder and awe for these majestic rock masses that have such a great influence on the climate, vegetation, food, ways of life and on mankind. Elkin Creek Ranch has been dreaming of a life in nature for years and now they have finally taken the leap to live as one with nature, with you. As Europeans, they hope to create a vibrating mix with the local culture, especially with the one of the First Nations. This ranch vacation is a perfect mixture of horseback riding and leisure!
You will stay at Elkin Creek Ranch. This valley has been home to the people of the First Nations for centuries and the names of each of the seven cabins refer to that connection. Their names (Bear Cave, Beaver Lodge, Wolf Den, Eagles Nest, etc. ) clearly embody their place in nature and wildlife. They have been inaugurated by the Xeni Gwet’in elders at the end of September 2015.
Each cabin has a living room and two large bedrooms with each a private bathroom and dressing. They are scattered in the woods, which allows you to withdraw from the world and enjoy your privacy. Curl up on the covered terrace that provides a panoramic view of the fields, the mountains, and the Elkin Creek.
Each time approximately two hours in the morning and / or afternoon, your horseback riding skills will first be tested by the wrangler. You can spend the rest of the afternoon doing complimentary water sports like canoe, kayak, and windsurf on the lake.
During your stay, you have the opportunity to witness real farm life at the ranch. Haymaking, repairing fences, the care and feeding of the animals, they are all a part of the 'scenery' that enhances your experience in nature.
The evenings here are chilly, with bright stars in a dark sky. Around here, stargazing is an activity in itself. Some evenings is even possible to catch a glimpse of the magical northern lights. At dusk, warm up by a cozy campfire to create the ideal setting for a nice get-together. Wrapped up, with a drink in your hand, everyone would like to get to know you and listen to your stories.
This ranch vacation will take place in British Columbia, Canada. The ranch is located approximately 400 kilometers North of Vancouver and is two and a half hours of a road trip from the nearest service center of Williams Lake, British Columbia. It is the ideal stop to repose and hide away in an untouched piece of nature. It is deeply hidden in one of the most beautiful and unique valleys of British Columbia and has all the natural elements that make a trip through Canada absolutely worthwhile: snowy mountains, densely wooded hills, crystal clear lakes, rushing rivers, and animals shyly showing up every so often. It is one of the last places in British Columbia where wildlife still prevails.
The eye-catcher of the valley is Mount Tatlow or Ts’yl-os in Native language. It is a majestic mountain that draws all of your attention and indicates where the Ts’il-os Provincial Park begins. Beware, one should not point at the mountain, since the legend of the First Nations says it brings great misfortune.
Meals are not included, but each cabin has a fully equipped kitchen.
Please book your flight to arrive at Williams Lake Airport (YWL). Transfer from this airport is available upon request. A chartered flight can also be arranged at Elkin Creek Ranch's own airstrip.
