You will stay in the ranch's spacious suite or one-bedroom furnished house. Air, high-speed internet, cable, delicious meals, and real Guanacaste hospitality awaits you. In addition, the ranch has one and two-bedroom houses for families and small groups.

Program

Day 1

You will be transferred from the San Jose Airport or Tamarindo Regional to your comfortable accommodations at the Painted Pony Guest Ranch located just minutes from the beautiful Pacific beaches of Guanacaste. Welcome dinner will be served either at the ranch or a local restaurant.

Lunch and dinner are included.

Day 2

Enjoy a full ranch breakfast, then you will have a ranch orientation and a Criollo horse demonstration. You will have a chance to try out your horses in the ring or take a refresher lesson.

After lunch, mount your horse riding through oxcart trails and large working cattle ranches on the old Spanish Trail. Follow the trails of the conquistadors to Cartagena where you will gather at a typical cowboy outdoor cantina for dinner.

Day 3

After a hearty breakfast, you will ride along an old Spanish trail that traverses through large haciendas and backcountry trails. Along the way, you can look for monkeys, tropical birds, and dry tropical vegetation. Stop in the cattle town of Tempate for a picnic lunch and cold drinks then ride the “Old Spanish Trail” back to the ranch.

Take a dip in the pool and relax before dinner at the ranch. Afternoon option: you can watch the head trainer work with young horses using Natural Horsemanship Techniques.

Day 4

After breakfast, begin the day with a non-riding visit to Monkey Park and Rescue Center to see the native wildlife and birds found in Guanacaste or a Natural Horsemanship or Centered Riding lesson.

After lunch, you will ride your horse through the beautiful ranch country and over the coastal hills to the small village of Lorena for a stop at one of the most popular cantina stops, Chilito’s – La Cima to sample their famous fried chicken and chips – a real “Taste of Guanacaste”. You will then ride back to the ranch at sunset.

Day 5

After a delicious cup of Costa Rican coffee and home-made goodies, you will take an early morning Tico Trails tour, passing along rivers, through impressive wooded countryside, ranches, and picturesque villages. Along the way, you may see Howler monkeys, and colorful tropical birds as well as getting a glimpse of the traditional Sabanero cowboy culture. When you arrive back at the ranch, a traditional Tico breakfast cooked over firewood will be served.

Day 5

When you reach the beach, saddle your horses then ride will start in Puerto Viejo then travel along the pristine white Pacific beach of Puerto Viejo, Conchal, and Brasilito. Here you will take time to play in the water and photos. You can then either swim or walk on the beach before lunch or dinner at the beach (times depend on the low tide).

Day 6

After breakfast, you will be transferred back to the airport or to your next destination by arrangement. Breakfast is included.

About the horses

You will love riding Casagua Horses' well-trained horses, a mix of the noble Spanish horses, known for their easy ride and great temperament not only on trail rides but also in the typical fiestas Sunday horse parades called Topes. Many of the horses were born and trained on the ranch using Natural Horsemanship techniques. Western, English, and McClellan saddles available.

The Painted Pony Guest Ranch at Casagua Horses is located on Route 155, just minutes from some of Costa Rica's famous Pacific Gold Coast beaches, such as Tamarindo, Flamingo, Conchal, and Playa Grande, in the heart of Guanacaste's famous ranch country.

Riders and non-riders alike will enjoy the relaxed environment on the 50-acre horse ranch, an oasis of tropical trees and dry forest flora and fauna. Wake to monkeys calling from the trees and horses nickering in the pastures. Ride the old Spanish trails, mountain trails, sandy beaches on comfortable, well cared for horses with expert bi-lingual guides. Experience a real "Taste of Guanacaste" culture.
