Brazos Bluffs Ranch is located five miles west of I-35, half-way between Austin and Dallas-Fort Worth, three hours from Houston and San Antonio, next to the popular Brazos de Dios farm, an agrarian Christian community. Though only five miles from Waco, you'll hear owls hoot in the woods, frogs in chorus, and sometimes coyotes howling. You might see deer and wild turkeys at dawn and dusk as you hike or jog up and down the wooded trails. Things to do (optional)

Canoeing and kayaking

Brazos Bluffs Ranch has one three-seat canoe (30 USD for two hours), one two-seat canoe (25 USD for two hours) and two kayaks (each 20 USD for two hours). You can spend an hour or all day canoeing or kayaking the clear waters of the Brazos River. Wild turkey, deer, osprey, great blue herons, and other wild animals inhabit the sparsely populated banks. For weeks in the spring and fall, each year scores of flocks of migrating sandhill cranes provide an audio-visual performance flying in formation directly over the ranch, chattering to one another the whole way.

Unlike most birds, which migrate at night when the atmosphere is more stable, sandhill cranes migrate during the daytime to take advantage of the lifts of rising air currents. Although most of the river bed is sandy, because there are also rocks, both large and small, Brazos Bluffs Ranch recommends that you wear shoes that you don't mind getting wet and muddy.
