All quarters at the lodge provide private en-suite bathrooms with toilet and shower as well as floor heating for the winter months. The rates are all-inclusive meaning that all rooms come with free meals and non-alcoholic beverages, but also services like hiking, biking, ping pong, campfire (on request), etc. are included in the room rates.

The rides

For the first 17 kilometers you will load the horses in the trailer and drive to the entry of the British Columbia Provincial Park before you start the more than 20 kilometers long trail ride through the park. Pure wilderness awaits!

Besides horseback-riding, this package includes a day trip to one of the local attractions like the Nemaiah Valley or Sherwood Lake. If you want to combine horseback-riding, a camp trip, some sightseeing of nature with the comfort of our lodge this is your deal!

The horses

All the horses are just as happy out in front leading as they are at the back following. For the experienced rider they are all responsive enough to move up and down the line and listen to where you want to go, yet safe enough to quietly drop their head and follow with a novice or less confident rider. The minimum riding age is 12 years.

The hosts always try to maintain a good mix in their herd to be able to match the different types of riders. While some of the 4-legged team are older with a lot of experience, others are just in their prime and they also have a handful of youngsters who will be just starting the ground training this summer. Feel free to watch and ask questions if you catch the hosts in the round pen.

All the horses get regular schooling in the arena to keep them as soft and willing as possible. In springtime this allows the hosts to bring them back into work slowly and gently after their winter vacation. It also allows the summer staff to get to know their "team mates" and all their characters making your riding days as enjoyable as possible.

Included excursions

One day trip to the Nemaiah Valley or Sherwood Lake is included in the price.

Driving directions From Williams Lake via Farwell Canyon

  • (125 kilometers, last 80 kilometers on gravel road / around 2 hours drivig)
  • This is a spectacular route through the beautiful Farwell Canyon, rarely the locals first choice due to the extra km’s on gravel and large logging trucks who travel this road.
  • From Williams Lake head out west on Highway 20
  • In Riske Creek, at the first sign to Big Creek, turn left on Farwell Canyon Road
  • now you are driving on gravel, please set your trip meter to zero
  • after a little more than 20 kilomters you cross the Chilcotin River which means you are already at the bottom of the beautiful Farwell Canyon
  • go ahead and at kilometer 62 you reached the T- junction with Big Creek Road coming in from the right
  • to your left there is a post with lots of direction signs and to the right you see an old, but still working phone booth - keep going straight ahead for another 5 kilometers, then turn left into Witte Road
  • be patient, don’t take the first option to the left
  • now follow the signs Big Creek Lodge 15 kilometers along Witte Road
  • bear right at 77 kilometers and left again at 80 kilometers
  • after one more kilometer, you made it.

You will notice each road you take has numbered yellow km markers every km so you can see how far along you have traveled on that road.

Driving directions from Williams Lake via Lee's Corner

  • (145 kilometers, last 50 kilometers on gravel road / around 2 hours driving)
  • This route is 20 km longer, but has shorter distance on gravel, better road conditions as used for local traffic, also logging traffic isn’t that busy over here.
  • From Williams Lake head out west on Highway 20 as in option 1
  • this time you don’t turn left at Riske Creek, but stay on Highway 20 for another 43 km
  • now it’s time to turn left at Lee’s Corner, a historical gas station and inn which unfortunately fell victim to the flames of the 2017 forest fires.
  • After you have turned, you still see a blue sign to Big Creek to your right
  • now you drive on gravel. Please set your trip meter to zero.
  • After 3 km you cross the Chilcotin River and then turn left at 5.5 km to Big Creek
  • after that just stay on the main road following the signs Big Creek
  • after 25 km (at kilometer post 30) pass by Fletcher Lake
  • go ahead until you get to the T-junction with Farwell Canyon Road
  • in front of you there is a post with many direction signs
  • turn right to enter the last section which is identical to option 1
  • so follow Farwell Canyon Road for about 5 km, then turn left into Witte Road
  • still be patient, don’t take the first option to the left. Stay on the main road and follow the signs Big Creek Lodge 15 km along Witte Road
  • bear right at 47 kilometers at the sign and left again at 50 kilometers
  • after a one more kilometer, you made it.

You will notice each road you take has numbered yellow km markers every km so you can see how far along you have traveled on that road.
